I’m a bit sad to see the riots happening in my home city, so I thought I’d share a… erm… a thought.
When I look at the rioting I find my self hunting for an explanation of what is going on. When a society reaches a place of such disregard for it’s overall wellbeing that morals, once upheld (however reluctantly) seem to vanish. But then it dawned on me.
This is not about individualism, that is only half way there, this is not a bunch of people who are in reaction to their perceived status as ‘have nots’, nope, this is sadly far more insipid. Burglary could maybe be seen as I have just described, but rioting and looting takes this all one step further.
A looting mob is the complete antithesis of a Christ centred culture that would seek to uphold other citizens and perhaps more than that, selflessly serve those they live alongside (this may be the reserve of idealism, but it’s a good goal none the less). A looting mob is the grimmest example of a society taking not only what it wants, but using the power and anonymity found in a mob to take whatever an individual wants. Simply put, it’s individuals using other individuals for individual gain and that is deeply sad.

Tomorrow, where I will escape,
the shadow of yesterday’s perceived great,
Sorrow, so familiar and real,
these aren’t the marks of tomorrow’s feel.
Ch//
Tomorrow you ever run from me,
offering the promise of all I can be,
I’ll pursue you,
your distant dream rings true,
I’ll pursue you,
my tomorrow’s where I meet you.
V2//
Tomorrow, in glory I’m blind,
the memories of old no longer to remind,
Blameless, by grace I am set free,
by power of your fearsome love for me.
So this is a geeky bit of info, but I have just figured something out that others are bound to find useful. So here it is.
On a MAC if you use stickies on your dashboard, you may have come across an issue where the content of your sticky disappears after you log out or shut your MAC down and restart. If you have experienced this very annoying issue, this is what is happening.
Stickies does not enter your textual info into it’s .plist file unless you physically type something in the note.
So if you just copy and paste stuff without actually typing anything in the note, the .plist file just recognises that you have made a note, but doesn’t save the content.
To resolve this, just hit return or something after whatever you have pasted in and the physical typing act causes Stickies to update all your pasted content into it’s .plist file saving it for when you next log in.
Eh Voila, mystery solved.
You don’t want to know how long this took to discover.
To see the process in action try the steps listed whilst looking at the .plist file.
As you may or may not know, I have just begun my studies for a Masters of Divinity at Morling College in Sydney, and because of this, and a part time job in a Bike shop, I have not had a great deal of spare writing time.
So I have decided to put Paronymous Christos down for a while. I’m not sure how long, as it will most likely be essay topics that get me thinking again, but my written outlet will be those for a time, along with the odd tweet (@markedthoughts)
The floods in Australia have been a truly horrible reality for many, but I always find it interesting how any large scale event is comprised of a myriad of personal experiences of those involved.
Thisarticle from Good, highlights just such a phenomena, all be it a fairly bizarre component experience of one man.
The world is amazing, at any one moment it is full of unfathomable quantity’s of ‘experiences’, just happening, to people, living. Amazing.
The stats helper monkeys at WordPress.com mulled over how this blog did in 2010, and here’s a high level summary of its overall blog health:

In 2010, there were 127 new posts, growing the total archive of this blog to 335 posts. There were 169 pictures uploaded, taking up a total of 76mb. That’s about 3 pictures per week.
The busiest day of the year was June 30th with 244 views. The most popular post that day was Micah 6:8.
These are the posts and pages that got the most views in 2010.
Happy Christmas fair folk. I hope it’s a very fantasmagorical day.
Born in barn, slept in a pig trough, visited by Kings which unsurprisingly the family didn’t even know. Pretty epic start to the story.
Today I will be percussing in the name of praise for the Saviour of the Universe and relationship with his Dad. Hanging out with chums, being enveloped by the Giovanelli family for Christmas lunch and well, jolly well loving a sunny summer’s Christmas day.
This is a considered and thoughtful article on the role of worship in our churches. I think it’s probably important to remind ourselves of the things described here from time to time.
It perhaps links well with this recent entry from Donald Miller’s blog which I am enjoying a lot at the mo too. (Perhaps ironic that I’m blogging about it)
I can’t help but want to sit with the authors of articles like this and share a few stories of Jesus and the way he dealt with conflict or how he has worked in the lives of many around me. These issues are important, divisive and they are very real for our churches today and I think it’s important to wrestle with what we believe God is saying to be the truth, but the more I grow the more I see this:
8,379 people have taken their shoes off and stopped by for a cup of tea. (These people may well have had more than one cup of tea a day, this counter registers cups drunk not individual tea consumers.)
